How do I stop my puppy from biting me?

I have an afghan hound puppy who was horrible about biting everyone, and we have the scars to prove it, now that he is six months old he has started to calm down. I did get him a vibration/shock collar on ebay for about $20.00 with a remote. Whenever he goes to bite, I buzz him, if he continues and bites hard, I give him a shock...he doesn't bite hard anymore.
