Why do people shake their leg up and down when they sit?

Or with females, sometimes the foot starts shaking or leg starts swinging? Just was wondering what people thought the causes are? RLS is sometime that bothers people with a burning sensation and even effects sleep, so that's not what I'm talking about...anyway, just curious as I do this too...
